So who is the Thirsty Cat? Well, technically, the meanest cat ever that goes by the moniker of Pepper Anne is the Thirsty Cat…
But despite the name of the blog, this is not a blog about cats. Well, I have 4 cats, so there may be a post or two about them… but I digress. This is really a blog about me… the owner of Thirsty Cat Productions and Thirsty Cat Photography… and all my adventures- both personally and professionally.
So who am I? I’m Joni Shaw Smith. I am a daughter, a wife, a Boymom, a writer, a producer, a photographer and gourmet cook that can’t make basic rice. I’m a wannabe Wonder Woman who has an incredible affinity (or possible addiction) to great coffee. You know the saying “not all who wander are lost”? I think that applies to me. I am a homebody who can’t sit still and constantly craves new things… new places to explore, new foods to try, new ways to style my home, new adventures to take my family on. My husband always jokes that he feels lucky I am not yet bored with him.
Being a Boymom, you can only imagine what my home life must be! I am married to my college sweetheart, Jeff, and have two sons, Jett and Jaxson. Surrounded by trails of dirt, sporting equipment, and BMX bikes (not to mention the hair-pulling when it comes to bathroom etiquette) there is not a day that goes by that isn’t interesting! (Sidenote: I’m pretty sure anyone that follows this blog will be coming back solely to find out more about my youngest son’s “other life” that includes a wife, princess mommy, multiple daddies and a drunk grandma. His imagination plays out like an episode of Jerry Springer!)
Being a creative person, my mind is never at rest and usually manifests itself in DIY projects. I am constantly changing the decor in the house, wanting to change the paint on the walls (heck, I have a few walls in the house I want to knock down and some I want built). I am one of those that actually enjoys renovations. The demolition, the creation, the rebuilding. Getting my hands dirty and paint splatters stuck in my hair makes for a great day. Just don’t expect me to water the plants.
That creativity also comes in an edible form. I love, love, love to cook. And thankfully, I’m pretty good at it. But, just don’t ask me to give you a recipe. And, God forbid, I make something from an actual recipe! Recipes are actually like chemistry. You have to add the right compounds together or you get an explosion (and I know this for a fact as I almost blew up the organic chemistry lab during my pre-med studies at Texas Christian University.) And, well, I obviously am not that good at chemistry. So, I create my own recipes. Of course, I’m always inspired by others (I mean, you should see how many recipes I have pinned on Pinterest!) but always end up creating my own version. And I definitely know I have created a keeper when Jeff asks after a meal, “I hope you wrote that one down.”
Over the years of being a producer, I have had many encounters with celebrities, stayed in some amazing (and some scary) locales, eaten some mouthwatering (and, sadly, inedible) meals, and had some delightful (and some outrageous) experiences. And because of this, I have some really great travel tips and recommendations for some of this country’s greatest cities that I am always asked to share.
So, get a cup of coffee, get in a cozy place, and get ready for an adventure. You just will never know what kind of tales this Thirsty Cat will share!
